Vaccinations

At The inFURmary, we believe preventive care is the best way to keep your pets healthy and protected. Vaccinations are a crucial part of that care, helping to prevent serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. We tailor vaccine protocols to your pet’s lifestyle, risk factors, and overall health to ensure they receive the best protection with minimal risk.

Canine Vaccines

Core Vaccines (Recommended for All Dogs):

  • Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus (DAPP) – This protects against multiple highly contagious and often fatal viral diseases. This vaccine is given every 3-4 weeks until puppies reach 16 weeks old, is boosted at 1 year, and then is given every 3 years.
  • Rabies – Rabies is a fatal virus that affects the nervous system. This vaccine is required by law in California for all dogs.
  • Leptospirosis – This bacterial infection is commonly found in standing water sources, can  cause acute liver and kidney failure, and can be transmitted from pets to people. Leptospirosis cases have been on the rise in San Diego over the past few years. This core vaccination starts with a series of 2 shots, then is boosted annually.
  • Bordetella (Kennel Cough) – This protects against a common cause of infectious respiratory disease, and is especially important for dogs that visit groomers, boarding facilities, or dog parks.

Non-Core Vaccine (Recommended Based on Lifestyle):

  • Canine Influenza (CIV) – This vaccine helps prevent respiratory illness caused by canine flu viruses, and recommended for dogs in social environments such as boarding and grooming

Feline Vaccines

Core Vaccines (Recommended for All Cats):

  • FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) – This protects against a group of serious respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. It is given every 3-4 weeks until kittens are 16 weeks old, is boosted at 1 year, and then is given every 3 years.
  • Rabies – Rabies is a fatal virus that can affect cats and humans. While not legally required for cats in California, it is highly recommended for their safety and yours.

Non-Core Vaccine (Recommended Based on Lifestyle):

  • Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) – This vaccine is recommended for kittens and outdoor cats, as FeLV is a contagious and potentially fatal disease.
