Comprehensive Dental Care

Dental health is a crucial part of your pet’s overall well-being. As in people, poor oral hygiene can lead to painful infections, tooth loss, and even organ damage if bacteria spread into the bloodstream. At The inFURmary, we provide full-service dental care to keep your pet’s mouth healthy and pain-free.

Our Dental Services

🦷 Routine Dental Cleanings – Just like when you visit your own dentist, your pet will receive a professional ultrasonic scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar, preventing gum disease. Radiographs are performed to identify disease hiding below the gumline.

🦷 Gum Disease Treatment – Gingivitis and periodontal disease are common in pets and can lead to bad breath, pain, and tooth loss. We offer deep cleanings and treatments to restore gum health.

🦷 Tooth Extractions – If a tooth is severely damaged, infected, or loose, extraction may be the best option to relieve pain and prevent further issues.

🦷 Broken & Fractured Tooth Treatment – Pets love to chew, but hard toys or trauma can lead to painful tooth fractures. We assess and treat broken teeth to prevent infection and discomfort.

Why Regular Dental Care Is Important

  • Prevents Pain & Infection – Dental disease is painful and can lead to difficulty eating, weight loss, drooling, nasal issues, and behavioral changes.
  • Protects Vital Organs – When dental disease is untreated, bacteria from gum infections can enter the bloodstream, which can lead to complications affecting the heart, liver, and kidneys.
  • Eliminates Bad Breath – No one likes stinky dog kisses! And foul-smelling breath is often a size of underlying dental disease.
  • Avoids Costly Emergencies – Regular cleanings help prevent severe dental problems that may require extractions or advanced treatment.

How Often Should Your Pet Get a Dental Cleaning?

That depends on your pet! Some dogs and cats are lucky and only need them occasionally. Others may require more frequent care depending on their breed, age, and oral health. We recommend an annual visit for a dental evaluation, so we can see check your pet’s teeth and see if a cleaning it warranted

Why Don’t We Do Non-Anesthetic Cleanings?

Non-anesthetic dental cleanings are not recommended for a variety of reasons.

  • Stress – Pets must be physically restrained during non-anesthetic dentals. The ultrasonic scaler can be loud and the vibrations can be very scary.
  • Enamel damage – During non-anesthetic dentals, the teeth are cleaned with an ultrasonic scaler, which leaves microscopic scratches on the surface of the tooth, but the teeth are not polished. This leaves a rough surface behind where bacteria can attach, leading to more rapid tartar formation. During a full professional cleaning, scaling is following by polishing, smoothing the tooth’s surface.
  • No treatment of periodontal disease – While a non-anesthetic dental may make the surface of the tooth look clean, it does nothing to evaluate or treat any issues below the gumline. There is no way to take x-rays to identify hidden problems, or to address any issues with bone loss or loose teeth.Β

At The inFURmary, we understand that putting your pet under a general anesthetic for a dental cleaning can be stressful for you and your pet. We want you to know that your pet’s safety and comfort is our top priority – every dental procedure receives intravenous fluids, full anesthetic monitoring, and medications to relieve both any pain and anxiety.Β
